DRK Daggers / German Red Cross – Models, Features & History
The edged weapons of the German Red Cross (DRK) were produced in the NS period as
officers’ presentation daggers and as so-called hauers for NCOs/enlisted. They were primarily
decorative and representative rather than combat arms. The key patterns are the
Officer’s Dagger (Model 1938) and the Hauer for NCOs/Other Ranks. Miniature and
honor versions are also known.
Fittings: nickel- or silver-plated mounts; stylized DRK emblem with eagle and Geneva cross.
Blade: bright polished, no motto/etch; some show “Ges. Gesch.” on the ricasso.
Scabbard: plated metal scabbard (nickel/silver tone), often with fine texture; suspension rings for hangers.
Officer’s dagger (1938): more elaborate, typically with portepee and crisper emblem details.
Hauer (NCO/OR): plainer, sturdier build; often with blunted tip (not intended as a fighting weapon).
Makers & Period
DRK edged weapons were produced roughly from 1938 into the early 1940s. Many examples are
unmarked; known makers were based in Solingen. No RZM markings were used on DRK daggers.
