RLB Daggers – Models, Features & Identification (Reichsluftschutzbund)
The Reichsluftschutzbund (RLB) was the official German air raid protection organization (from 1933/35),
responsible for training civilians in air defense. Starting in 1936, distinct RLB daggers were
introduced – first the 1st Model with the early RLB emblem, and from 1938 the 2nd Model
with a revised grip plaque. Parallel to these, RLB Officer Daggers (Führer), miniatures and rare
honor daggers were produced.

FAQ
How do I distinguish the 1st vs. 2nd Model?
The 1st Model features the blue RLB monogram on a sunburst, while the 2nd Model shows
a large black enamel swastika on sunburst. On the Officer’s dagger, the center band was introduced
in 1938 for dual suspension straps.
Do RLB daggers have RZM markings?
Generally no. RLB blades show maker marks (e.g., Eickhorn, WKC, Höller, SMF) but no RZM codes.
Hangers may show DRGM or maker stamps.
What increases collector value?
Original enamel plaques with convincing age and wear
Untouched blades (no re-polish, no fantasy etches)
Complete sets with hangers (DRGM/OLC), portepee, case, award documents
Rare honor daggers or early 1st Model pieces with good provenance
