NSKK Service Dagger [Early Version] by Paul Seilheimer Solingen

NSKK Service Dagger in early production from the period 1933–1935, manufactured by Paul Seilheimer Solingen. The dagger belongs to the early production type of service daggers of the National Socialist Motor Corps and bears the matching group marking “Om” for Ostmark on the lower crossguard. The combination of early construction, nickel crossguards, maker Paul Seilheimer Solingen and matching group marking makes this piece especially interesting for collector identification.

Grip & Crossguards: Brown wooden grip with inserted national eagle and an enameled SA emblem above it. Both grip emblems are internally prong-fastened. Both crossguards are made of nickel and correspond to the early production style. The lower crossguard bears the group marking “Om”, which stands for Ostmark and is considered matching for this maker.

Blade: The front side of the blade bears the well-known SA motto “Alles für Deutschland”. The reverse side shows the maker logo Paul Seilheimer Solingen. The blade shoulders fit cleanly and precisely against the lower crossguard. The maker marking, matching group marking and early construction are important features when identifying this NSKK service dagger.

Scabbard: The scabbard is made of iron and has a later black lacquer finish. Both scabbard fittings are made of nickel-plated sheet steel and are each secured on the sides by two small screws. The black scabbard appearance corresponds to the NSKK service dagger style, while the later lacquer finish should be taken into account when assessing the condition.

Historical Background: Early NSKK Service Dagger by Paul Seilheimer Solingen

The NSKK Service Dagger is based in its general form on the early SA service dagger and was worn by members of the National Socialist Motor Corps. Early pieces from the period 1933–1935 often show higher-quality materials, nickel fittings and clearly executed maker markings.

The National Socialist Motor Corps was a motorized organization within the National Socialist structure. The service daggers were not practical combat knives, but representative sidearms and part of the uniform equipment.

On early daggers, the maker, material execution, group marking, blade shoulders, grip emblems and scabbard construction are important features for collector identification. The group marking “Om” stands for Ostmark and, in connection with the maker Paul Seilheimer Solingen, is a relevant detail of this piece.
