SA Honor Dagger M1933 with Partially Ground Röhm Dedication – Ernst Pack & Söhne Solingen

SA Honor Dagger Model 1933 with partially ground-out Röhm dedication, manufactured by Ernst Pack & Söhne, Solingen. The dagger dates from the early production period 1933–1935. The front side of the double-edged blade bears the SA motto “Alles für Deutschland”. On the reverse side, parts of the original Röhm dedication remain visible. The overall length is approximately 375 mm, with a weight of approximately 451 g.

Grip & Crossguards: Brown wooden grip in typical early configuration. The grip is fitted with the SA emblem and national eagle. The upper and lower crossguards correspond to the early SA dagger type and show age-related patina and signs of use.

Blade: Double-edged blade with the SA motto “Alles für Deutschland” on the front side. The reverse side originally bore the Röhm dedication “In herzlicher Kameradschaft Ernst Röhm”. The dedication was later partially ground out, with parts of the original inscription still visible. Clear grinding and working marks are present in the affected area. The maker marking Ernst Pack & Söhne, Solingen is also present on the blade.

Röhm Dedication: On this example, the dedication inscription on the reverse of the blade was not completely removed. Parts of the lettering remain visible, while other areas were clearly ground away. The different surface finish in the area of the former dedication remains visible.

Scabbard: Early-type iron scabbard with brown finish. The upper and lower scabbard fittings and suspension ring are present. The scabbard shows clear age- and use-related surface traces, wear and patina.

Condition: The dagger is in overall condition 2. Grip, crossguards, blade and scabbard are preserved. The blade shows age-related surface traces as well as clear working marks from the partially removed Röhm dedication. Remaining parts of the inscription are still visible. The scabbard shows age- and use-related traces.

Historical Background: SA Honor Dagger M1933 with Röhm Dedication

A group of early SA daggers was additionally engraved with a personal dedication from the then SA Chief of Staff Ernst Röhm. The inscription on the reverse side of the blade read “In herzlicher Kameradschaft Ernst Röhm”.

Between 30 June and 2 July 1934, the leadership of the SA was targeted during the purge later known as the “Röhm Affair” or “Night of the Long Knives”. Ernst Röhm was killed during these events. On many daggers bearing his dedication, the inscription was subsequently fully or partially removed from the blade.

On the present example, the Röhm dedication was only partially ground out. Parts of the original lettering and the working marks from its removal remain visible on the reverse side of the blade. The blade also bears the maker marking Ernst Pack & Söhne, Solingen.

The SA was a paramilitary organization of the NSDAP and played a major role in political violence, intimidation and the rise of the National Socialist movement. The dagger described here is presented exclusively as a historical collector’s object and period edged weapon.
