SA Dagger [Early Version] with Hanger by Wilhelm Weltersbach Solingen
Rare example of an early production SA service dagger, manufactured by the extremely scarce producer Wilhelm Weltersbach, Solingen. Daggers by this maker rank among the most sought-after rarities of early SA production and are known in only very limited numbers (rarity rating 4.5/5).
Grip: Brown wooden grip with inset nickel silver national eagle and enameled SA emblem, both originally crimped in place and untouched. The crossguards are made of solid nickel. The lower crossguard bears the correct original group stamp “Ho” (Hochland), which is typical for early pieces by this maker. The SA eagle and emblem have never been removed.
Blade: Double-edged, bright blade with fully preserved crossgrain. On the obverse, the SA motto “Alles für Deutschland” is deeply and sharply etched in crisp, angular execution. The reverse shows the rare maker’s mark Wilhelm Weltersbach, Solingen. The blade shoulders fit precisely and without tension to the lower crossguard – an important quality feature.
Scabbard: Steel scabbard retaining its original brown anodized finish. Nickel-plated steel fittings, each secured with two side screws. The upper fitting is equipped with the ring for the suspension hanger.
Hanger: Original brown leather hanger with snap fastener. Buckle and snap hook are made of nickel-plated steel and remain in excellent, undamaged condition.
Historical Classification: Early SA Service Dagger & Maker Wilhelm Weltersbach
The SA service dagger was introduced in late 1933 as the official edged weapon of the Sturmabteilung (SA). Early examples are characterized by solid nickel fittings, high-quality blades and precise workmanship.
The maker Wilhelm Weltersbach, Solingen ranks among the rarest known producers of SA daggers. The very limited production makes daggers by this firm top-tier collector’s pieces.
The present group stamp “Ho” (Hochland) is documented for early daggers by this maker and represents an authentic period marking. The combination of rare manufacturer, early production and a fully preserved hanger gives this dagger outstanding collector appeal.
