NPEA Student Leader’s Dagger [M1935] by Karl Burgsmüller Berlin

Service dagger of the National Political Educational Institutions (NPEA) for instructors, model 1935, featuring the distributor marking on the blade Karl Burgsmüller, Berlin. The dagger is offered together with an expert opinion by Ralf Siegert.

Grip: Brown wooden grip of classic shape with inserted aluminum national eagle, period-correctly internally clamped. The grip shows authentic aging and presents a consistent overall appearance.

Blade: Double-edged steel blade, cleaned on both sides. The obverse bears the typical NPEA motto “Mehr sein als scheinen”. The reverse shows the distributor logo “Karl Burgsmüller, Berlin”. The blade shoulders fit precisely into the lower crossguard.

Scabbard: Iron scabbard with green paint. The front side features the retaining hook for the belt frog. The scabbard shows a homogeneous condition consistent with age.

Historical Classification: NPEA Service Dagger Model 1935

The National Political Educational Institutions (NPEA), commonly known as “Napolas,” were state elite schools with a strong military orientation. The NPEA service dagger model 1935 was introduced as a sidearm for members of these institutions.

Variants intended for instructors belonged to the higher-ranking versions within this organizational dagger group. Characteristic features include the green painted scabbard, the motto “Mehr sein als scheinen”, and distributor markings such as Karl Burgsmüller, Berlin.

NPEA daggers are considered relatively rare organizational edged weapons today. Examples accompanied by documentation or expert opinion represent particularly desirable collector pieces.
