Luftwaffe Officer Sword [Miniature] on Propeller Base by Alcoso Solingen
Miniature version of a Luftwaffe officer’s sword, Model 1935, mounted on a decorative propeller base. The piece bears the typical maker mark “Alcoso ACS Solingen”. The overall length is approx. 26.3 cm. The heavy base is made of iron and features a blued finish.
Grip: Wooden core wrapped in original blue saffian leather, very well preserved. The pommel is decorated on both sides with Luftwaffe eagles and swastikas and is screwed onto the tang. The characteristic wire wrap is complete and remains neatly intact.
Blade: Double-edged, mirror-bright blade in very good condition. The reverse carries the maker designation “Alcoso ACS Solingen”.
Scabbard: Three-piece metal scabbard, blue leather-covered (saffian leather), matching the grip. The leather covering shows no notable damage and is preserved in a consistent overall condition.
Historical Context: Luftwaffe Miniature Presentation Pieces
During the period of the Third Reich, miniature versions of edged weapons were often produced as decorative presentation and commemorative pieces. They were used as desk display items, honorary gifts, or personal keepsakes.
The Luftwaffe officer’s sword, Model 1935, is among the characteristic sidearms associated with Luftwaffe officer dress. Makers such as Alcoso (Alexander Coppel, Solingen) are known for producing both full-size examples and high-quality miniatures.
Versions mounted on a propeller base show a clear aviation reference and are sought after today, combining Luftwaffe symbolism with the craftsmanship of Solingen manufacture.
