SS Dagger [Late Model] with Hanger by RZM M7/80 (Gustav Spitzer Solingen)
SS service dagger of late production, manufactured in accordance with the regulations of the Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM). The blade bears the RZM code M7/80, attributed to the Solingen manufacturer Gustav Spitzer. This example represents a typical late-war variant of the SS service dagger and is offered together with its original carrying hanger.
Grip: Wooden grip of late manufacture, fitted with the SS runes emblem and the national eagle made of aluminium. Both insignia are crimped from the inside, as correct for the period. The crossguards are made of zinc and finished with a silver plating. The grip fits tightly and without any play between the guards.
Blade: Double-edged, mirror-bright steel blade in clean condition, free from rust, nicks, or damage. The obverse features the deeply and sharply etched SS motto “Meine Ehre heißt Treue” in the characteristic jagged RZM style. The reverse bears the RZM code “M7/80” for Gustav Spitzer, Solingen. The blade tip is fully intact and unshortened. The blade shoulders fit precisely against the lower crossguard.
Scabbard: Steel scabbard with black lacquered finish. The two scabbard fittings are made of nickel-plated sheet steel and are well preserved. Each fitting is secured with two side screws. The scabbard is straight and free of deformation.
Hanger: Black leather carrying hanger of period-correct design. Stamped SS 19/38 RZM. The snap clip is made of iron. A matching and authentic carrying assembly appropriate for late production.
Historical context: Late production SS service dagger
The SS service dagger was introduced in 1933 as the official edged weapon of the SS. Early examples were produced with high-quality materials, while later production was subject to strict RZM regulation and material simplification.
This late production variant, dating from approximately 1938/39 onward, is characterized by the use of zinc fittings and clearly defined RZM maker codes. The code M7/80 identifies the manufacturer Gustav Spitzer, Solingen.
Complete examples with intact blade, straight scabbard, and a matching original hanger are increasingly sought after, as they document the final development stage of SS service daggers.
