SS Dagger [Middle Version] by Carl Eickhorn Solingen (RZM 941/39 SS)

SS Service Dagger in middle-period production variant by Carl Eickhorn Solingen with RZM marking 941/39 SS. The dagger corresponds to the well-known SS service dagger pattern with black grip, black lacquered scabbard and nickel-plated fittings. The blade bears the SS motto “Meine Ehre heißt Treue” on the front side and the RZM maker code 941/39 SS with the Eickhorn logo on the reverse.

Grip: Black grip made of ebony or dark-finished wood. The grip is fitted with the SS emblem and the national eagle, both reportedly internally pinned. The grip surface shows an age-appropriate structure with normal signs of handling and storage. The crossguards have a nickel-plated surface with age-related patina and light traces of use.

Blade: Double-edged, mirror-bright blade without visible rust pitting or nicks. A distinct crossgrain is visible on both sides. The front side bears the deeply and darkly executed SS motto “Meine Ehre heißt Treue”. The reverse side is marked with the RZM code 941/39 SS and the manufacturer logo of Carl Eickhorn Solingen. The blade tip is preserved.

Scabbard: Black lacquered iron scabbard with nickel-plated scabbard fittings. The fittings are each secured laterally with two small screws. The suspension ring is present. The lacquer shows age-related carrying and handling traces with partial lacquer loss, particularly on the scabbard body. The scabbard fittings show patina and normal signs of age.

Maker & Marking: The RZM marking 941/39 SS refers to production or approval within the RZM control system. On this example, the RZM code is combined with the Eickhorn squirrel logo. The combination of RZM code, year and maker logo is typical for SS service daggers from the middle to later production period.

Historical Background: SS Service Dagger with RZM Marking

The SS Service Dagger was introduced in 1933 as a service and representative edged weapon of the Schutzstaffel. In its basic construction, it follows the form of the SA service dagger, but differs through its black finish, the SS emblem in the grip and the specific blade inscription.

Examples from the middle and later production periods often bear RZM markings. The RZM marking served for central control and assignment of manufacturers within the National Socialist organizational system. The marking 941/39 SS in combination with the Eickhorn logo indicates production by Carl Eickhorn Solingen.

Carl Eickhorn Solingen was one of the well-known manufacturers of German edged weapons during the 20th century. This dagger documents a production phase in which traditional maker logos and RZM markings could appear together on the blade.
