SS Dagger [Early Model] with Exclamation Point Motto & number 367367 by Haan Klittermann & Moog Solingen

Early SS service dagger from the 1933–1935 production period, featuring the rare exclamation mark “!” in the motto and an engraved SS membership number “367367”. The dagger was manufactured by Haan, Klittermann & Moog, Solingen. It is an early version with nickel silver fittings and regional marking. Particularly interesting is the personal attribution: the number 367367 belonged to Dr. Robert Hördemann.

Grip: Black ebony grip in early configuration. Inset are the SS runes and the national eagle, both made of nickel and period-typical internally crimped. The crossguards and the tang nut are made of nickel silver. The lower crossguard is marked with the Roman numeral “I” for SS-Abschnitt München. Below this is the neatly engraved SS membership number “367367”.

Blade: Double-edged blade in very good condition. On the front is the deeply and sharply etched SS motto “Meine Ehre heißt Treue !” with the characteristic exclamation mark. On the reverse is the maker’s mark “Haan, Klittermann & Moog, Solingen”. The blade shoulders fit precisely and without tension against the lower crossguard.

Scabbard: Iron scabbard with blackened finish. The scabbard fittings are made of nickel silver and are each secured on the sides with two screws. The upper fitting has the suspension ring for the hanger.

Historical Classification: Early SS Service Dagger with Attributable SS Membership Number 367367

The SS service dagger was introduced from 1933 onward as a sidearm of the Schutzstaffel (SS). Early examples such as the present piece are especially sought after by collectors, as they still display the characteristic features of the first production years, including nickel silver fittings, high-quality workmanship and, in rare cases, the motto with an exclamation mark “!”.

This dagger gains additional historical significance through the SS membership number 367367 engraved on the lower crossguard. This number belonged to Dr. Robert Hördemann, a German physician who held an important role within the National Socialist system in the field of youth and health administration. Hördemann was appointed Reich Physician of the Hitler Youth in 1937 and is regarded as one of the notable figures in National Socialist youth health policy.

In 1940, Robert Hördemann transferred to the Waffen-SS; the SS number 367367 is associated with this step in his career. In the course of his later service he received several promotions and eventually reached the rank of SS-Standartenführer. As a result, the dagger offered here not only has the collector-desirable characteristics of an early production example, but also a concrete personal attribution to a historically documented individual.

Hördemann is primarily known as an official within the medical apparatus of the Hitler Youth. In this role, he was involved in the organizational and ideological direction of youth health administration under National Socialism. This gives the engraved number on this dagger a broader historical dimension: it points not only to a specifically identifiable owner, but also to that individual’s integration into central structures of the Nazi system.

The Roman numeral “I” on the crossguard refers to SS-Abschnitt München. In combination with the maker Haan, Klittermann & Moog, Solingen, this results in an overall highly interesting collector’s piece with early features, regional marking, and an individually attributable SS membership number.
