SS Dagger [Middle Version] by Carl Eickhorn Solingen (RZM 941/36 SS)
SS service dagger of mid-period production, manufactured in accordance with the regulations of the Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM). The blade bears the RZM marking RZM 941/36 SS, assigned to the renowned Solingen manufacturer Carl Eickhorn. This example displays the characteristic features of the mid-production phase and is preserved in overall very good condition.
Grip: Black wooden grip fitted with the SS runes emblem and the national eagle made of aluminium, both correctly crimped from the inside. The crossguards are made of zinc and are nickel-plated. The pommel nut is made of iron and also nickel-plated. The grip fits tightly and without play between the guards.
Blade: Double-edged, mirror-bright steel blade, free from nicks. The complete crossgrain is clearly visible on both sides. The obverse features the SS motto “Meine Ehre heißt Treue”, deeply, clearly, and darkly etched. The reverse is plain and marked with the RZM logo and code “RZM 941/36 SS – Carl Eickhorn, Solingen”.
Scabbard: Steel scabbard with black lacquered finish. The two scabbard fittings are made of nickel-plated sheet steel and are each secured with two side screws. The scabbard is straight and shows no deformation.
Historical context: Mid-period SS service dagger
The SS service dagger was introduced in 1933 as the official edged weapon of the SS. While early examples were produced with high-grade materials such as nickel silver, daggers of the mid-production period already show a partial simplification of materials, while still retaining a high level of craftsmanship.
The marking RZM 941/36 SS identifies a dagger produced under RZM regulation by Carl Eickhorn, Solingen, one of the most important manufacturers of German edged weapons of the period. Daggers from this phase combine traditional design elements with the increasing standardisation of later production.
Well-preserved examples with a clearly etched motto, complete crossgrain, and original scabbard are highly sought after by collectors, as they document the transitional stage between early and late SS dagger manufacture.
