SA Dagger [Late Version] by RZM M7/9 (SMF Solingen)

Well-preserved SA service dagger of the late production period, made by the authorized RZM producer SMF Solingen with the maker code RZM M7/9. In both construction and appearance, the piece represents the later production phase of SA daggers and shows an unusually attractive overall state of preservation.

Grip: Brown wooden grip in particularly pleasing condition. The national eagle sits cleanly and flush in the wood. Above it is the enameled SA emblem, originally clipped in place and, by outward appearance, untouched. The crossguards are nickel-plated. The grip is firm and tight between the fittings, with no looseness.

Blade: Double-edged, mirror-bright steel blade with fully preserved crossgrain. On the front is the cleanly and deeply etched SA motto “Alles für Deutschland”. On the reverse is the RZM maker mark “RZM M7/9” for SMF Solingen. The blade shoulders fit precisely and without gaps to the crossguard.

Scabbard: Original brown-painted steel scabbard in very attractive preserved condition. The paint is fully present and appears even. Both fittings are mounted laterally with round screws. The tip is undamaged. Overall, this is a particularly appealing late SA scabbard.

Historical Context: SA service dagger of the late RZM production period

Late SA service daggers differ in several respects from the early versions of the years 1933–1935. While early pieces were often still produced with heavier nickel or nickel-silver fittings, later variants show a more standardized production under the regulations of the Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM).

Typical features of this later production phase include RZM maker codes on the blade, nickel-plated fittings, and usually brown-painted scabbards fitted with round screws. The marking M7/9 can be attributed to the Solingen producer SMF, a well-known maker of edged weapons of the period.

Late SA daggers in above-average condition are especially appreciated, as many surviving examples show clear wear and age. A mirror-bright blade with fully preserved crossgrain, together with a very well-preserved original scabbard finish, gives this example particularly strong collector appeal.
