SA Dagger [Early Version] with Hanger by Robert Giersch Solingen

SA Service Dagger from the early production period 1933–1935, manufactured by Robert Giersch, Solingen. The lower crossguard bears the matching group marking “Wm” (Westmark). The dagger is offered together with an original early SA leather hanger.

Grip: Brown wooden grip in early style. The national eagle and the SA enamel emblem above it are properly fitted and period-correct internally crimped. Both crossguards are made of nickel. The lower crossguard is stamped on the reverse with the Gau marking “Wm” (Westmark).

Blade: Double-edged blade in good condition. The obverse displays the deeply etched SA motto “Alles für Deutschland”. The reverse carries the maker mark “Rob. Giersch Solingen”. The blade shoulders fit cleanly against the lower crossguard.

Scabbard: Iron scabbard with brown original anodized finish. The scabbard fittings are made of nickel-plated steel and secured with two side screws each. The upper fitting includes the suspension ring for the hanger.

Hanger: Original early SA leather hanger made of brown leather in very nice condition. The markings correspond to typical early examples. The snap clip is functional. Buckle, clip and hardware are made of nickel silver.

Historical Classification: Early SA Service Dagger 1933–1935

The SA service dagger was introduced in 1933 as the symbolic sidearm of the Sturmabteilung (SA) and was stylistically inspired by Renaissance daggers. Early production examples until approximately 1935 are characterized by high-quality materials such as nickel fittings and carefully manufactured blades.

The group markings on the lower crossguard indicated organizational assignment within regional SA units. The marking “Wm” refers to the SA Group Westmark.

Manufacturers such as Robert Giersch, Solingen were among the approved producers of these edged weapons. Early examples with clear group markings, original hanger and good preservation are today considered desirable collector’s items within German edged weapons collecting.
