SA Dagger [Early Version] by Aesculap Tuttlingen

Early SA Service Dagger from the production period 1933–1935, manufactured by Aesculap, Tuttlingen. The lower crossguard bears the group marking “Sw” (Südwest). The dagger is offered together with a matching SA leather hanger.

Grip: Brown wooden grip in early configuration. The national eagle in nickel and the enameled SA emblem are correctly installed and internally clamped, without damage. Typical for Aesculap production is the sealed protective finish applied to the wooden grip. The lower crossguard is rear stamped with the matching group mark “Sw”.

Blade: Very clean, mirror-bright blade with an excellent overall appearance. The obverse shows the deeply etched SA motto “Alles für Deutschland”. The reverse bears the maker mark “Aesculap, Tuttlingen”.

Scabbard: Iron scabbard with original blued finish. The fittings are made of nickel-plated steel and secured by two side screws each. There is one dent on the reverse side.

Hanger: Original SA leather hanger in very nice condition. The snap clip functions correctly. Buckle, clasp and hook are made of steel and show only minor age-related wear. A matching and period-correct carrying set.

Historical Background: Early SA Service Daggers & Aesculap Production

The SA service dagger was introduced in late 1933 as the official sidearm of the Sturmabteilung (SA). Early examples from 1933–1935 are typically characterized by higher quality materials and precise craftsmanship.

The group marking “Sw” (Südwest) represents a period assignment within the SA organizational structure and is considered an important collectible feature.

The manufacturer Aesculap, Tuttlingen is well known for high-quality edged instruments. The sealed wooden grip finish is a documented production trait. In combination with matching hanger and well-preserved blade, this dagger represents a desirable collector piece.
