NSKK Honor Dagger [Adolf Hühnlein] with Hanger by F. Dick Esslingen
Early NSKK Adolf Hühnlein honour dagger from the production period 1933–1935, manufactured by F. Dick, Esslingen. The lower crossguard bears the group marking “Sw” for Südwest. The grip is fitted with the characteristic NSKK eagle, while the reverse of the blade carries the corresponding Hühnlein etch.
Grip: Brown wooden grip in early configuration. The typical NSKK eagle is inset in the center of the grip. This grip variant is made without the usual SA/NSKK emblem. Both crossguards are made of nickel / nickel silver. The lower crossguard is stamped on the reverse with the group mark “Sw” for Südwest.
Blade: The front bears the SA motto “Alles für Deutschland”. On the reverse are the maker’s mark “F. Dick Esslingen” and the Hühnlein etch with SA symbol.
Scabbard: Iron scabbard with black painted finish. The fittings are likewise made of nickel and are secured laterally with two screws each.
Hanger: Later-added, late-period 2-piece leather hanger. A functional snap fastener marked Assmann / DRGM is present. The leather is marked “SS 19/38 RZM”.
Historical Context: Early NSKK Adolf Hühnlein honour dagger
The NSKK honour dagger with Hühnlein etch is among the especially sought-after variants within the early NSKK dagger field. Unlike regular SA service daggers, this grip form features the characteristic NSKK eagle in the center of the grip and omits the otherwise common SA/NSKK emblem. This already gives the piece a clearly distinct and collector-relevant appearance.
The early production period from 1933 to 1935 is reflected in high-quality materials, nickel / nickel silver fittings, deeply etched blade decoration and careful workmanship. The group mark “Sw” refers to the Südwest group and allows an organizational classification within the NSKK or early SA/NSKK context.
The reverse Hühnlein etch makes this example particularly notable. Daggers with such personalized or organizationally emphasized blade etching stand clearly apart from ordinary service daggers and occupy a distinct place in collecting. The maker F. Dick, Esslingen is also a noteworthy name outside the large Solingen mass producers.
The later 2-piece leather hanger present here is a subsequent addition, yet remains an interesting functional carrying accessory within the set. Overall, this is a characterful early NSKK honour dagger with a very distinctive collector profile.
