NSKK Chained Marine Officer's Dagger [M1936] by RZM M7/36 (E.&F. Hörster Solingen)
Chained dagger of the National Socialist Motor Corps (NSKK) for motorboat units, Model 1936, manufactured under the regulations of the Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM). The dagger is marked RZM M7/36 – E.&F. Hörster, Solingen and represents the special naval-style variant with gilded chain suspension.
Grip: Brown wooden grip with inserted NSDAP eagle and above it the enamelled SA emblem; both insignia are crimped from the reverse, as period-correct. The upper and lower crossguards as well as the pommel nut are finished in gilding.
Blade: Double-edged, polished blade in good condition, free of rust or nicks. The obverse bears the deeply etched NSKK motto “Alles für Deutschland”. The reverse shows the RZM maker code “RZM M7/36 (E.&F. Hörster Solingen)”. The blade shoulders fit cleanly to the lower crossguard.
Scabbard: Steel scabbard with original black painted finish. The mounts are secured with side screws. The gilded chain hanger consists of a 4-link upper and 5-link lower chain. The upper links are stamped “Musterschutz NSKK-Korpsführung”, while the opposite side bears the RZM marking M5/8 for E. W. Assmann & Söhne, Lüdenscheid.
Historical Classification: NSKK Chained Dagger for Motorboat Units (Model 1936)
The NSKK chained dagger for motorboat units was introduced in 1936 and was identical in basic form to the standard NSKK chained dagger of that year. This variant, however, was specifically intended for naval and motorboat formations of the NSKK.
According to the classification presented in the book by Ralf Siegert, early examples were equipped with high-quality gilded fittings. Due to increasing shortages of precious metals, later production saw the use of so-called “quarter gold”, an alloy with a high copper content, which is often mistakenly described as copper plating.
Distribution was handled exclusively by the Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM); commercial retail sales were prohibited. Original, well-preserved examples with correct chain assemblies and clear RZM markings are today considered rare and highly desirable collector’s pieces within the field of NSKK edged weapons.
