Luftwaffe Funeral Dagger [1937] with Hangers and Expertise by Robert Klaas Solingen

Luftwaffe Officer’s Dagger, Model 1937 – 2nd Model, the so-called “mourning dagger” with black grip. Total length: 42.4 cm. Maker: Robert Klaas, Solingen, ricasso marked with the famous “Kissing Cranes” trademark and name. Extremely rare, as Klaas-produced daggers with black grips are seldom encountered, both in the Luftwaffe and Army series. Complete with portepee and two-piece hanger.

GripThe grip is made of black Trolon (plastic) with a rounded, convex-fluted profile, wrapped with twisted aluminum wire. The spherical pommel displays raised swastikas on each side, surrounded by fine oak-leaf ornamentation on a pebbled background. The pommel is firmly screwed to the tang and finished with a flat circular cap. The crossguard is shaped as a Luftwaffe eagle, facing left with wings sweeping downward, clutching a swastika in its talons. The reverse shows a finely pebbled texture.

BladeThe double-edged blade is bright and well preserved, with a sharp, intact tip. The reverse ricasso bears the maker’s mark “ROBERT KLAAS SOLINGEN” with the Kissing Cranes logo. The original leather buffer pad is in place between blade shoulders and crossguard.

ScabbardThe scabbard is of one-piece steel construction, with a fine pebbled surface finish. It has two bands decorated with oak-leaf motifs and fitted with closed suspension rings. The tip is rounded and without damage. The throat is separately inserted and secured by a side screw.
