Army Officer’s Dagger Model 1935 with luxury hanger and portepee, manufactured by F. W. Höller Solingen. The dagger has an overall length of approximately 40.0 cm and is offered complete with two-piece luxury hanger and attached portepee. The piece corresponds to the classic configuration of the Army Officer’s Dagger with orange-colored grip, oak leaf decorated fittings and granulated scabbard. The total weight is approximately 443 g with hanger and portepee.
Grip: Round, orange-colored grip with double-twisted, convex fluting. The grip surface shows the typical appearance of the Army Officer’s Dagger Model 1935. The conical pommel is firmly screwed onto the tang and decorated with surrounding oak leaf ornamentation. At the lower end of the grip is the typical decorative grip ring with oak leaves arranged side by side.
Crossguard: The crossguard shows the typical Army eagle, facing left, with downward swept wing tips. In its claws, the eagle holds a wreath with swastika. The execution corresponds to the well-known form of the Army Officer’s Dagger Model 1935.
Blade: Double-edged, bright blade in very good condition with fully preserved tip. The reverse side bears the etched maker logo “F. W. Höller Solingen”. Between the blade shoulders and crossguard is the leather buffer washer. The blade shows a clean, period-typical surface.
Scabbard: The scabbard is made from drawn sheet steel and displays the typical granulated surface texture on both front and reverse. Fitted with throat fitting and two oak leaf decorated suspension bands, each with movable, fully closed suspension rings. The throat piece is separately inserted and secured on the reverse with a screw. The scabbard tip is rounded.
Luxury Hanger & Portepee: The dagger comes with a two-piece luxury hanger with silver-colored straps, dark reverse backing and richly decorated metal fittings. The fittings show oak leaf and ornamental decoration. The reverse side of the hanger parts is dark-backed. The portepee is attached to the dagger and completes the full wearing set.
Special Features: The combination of F. W. Höller Solingen, well-preserved blade, orange-colored grip, complete scabbard, luxury hanger and portepee forms a complete-looking Army Officer’s Dagger ensemble. Compared with standard hangers, the luxury hanger represents a more elaborate version and underlines the representative character of the officer’s dagger.
Historical Background: Army Officer’s Dagger Model 1935
The Army Officer’s Dagger Model 1935 was introduced as a ceremonial and representative edged weapon for officers of the German Army. It was not intended as a combat knife, but formed part of the dress and parade uniform and served as a representative addition to an officer’s equipment.
Characteristic features of the Army Officer’s Dagger include the light-colored or color-tinted grip, the conical pommel with oak leaf decoration, the crossguard with Army eagle and the granulated scabbard with two oak leaf decorated suspension bands. Depending on maker, production period and materials used, numerous detail variations exist in grips, fittings, scabbard finish and hangers.
F. W. Höller Solingen was among the well-known Solingen manufacturers of German edged weapons. The company produced various daggers, knives and military equipment items. Maker-marked Army Officer’s Daggers by Höller can be identified by the corresponding blade marking on the reverse side of the blade.
The present luxury hanger represents a higher-grade version of the carrying accessory. Such hangers were worn with the dagger on the uniform and completed the appearance of the officer’s dagger during official occasions, parades and representative duties.
