DDR / NVA Officer’s Dagger for the Land Forces Model 1960 with serial number 74211. The dagger is offered complete with original silver bullion hanger, marksman lanyard and parade belt / waist belt. Complete ensemble of a numbered NVA officer’s dagger for the Land Forces of the German Democratic Republic (DDR / East Germany).
Grip: Typical white synthetic grip of NVA construction with correctly fitted grip cap. The nickel-plated fittings show an even surface. Upper and lower crossguards are firmly mounted without movement. The design corresponds to the characteristic configuration of officer daggers of the NVA Land Forces.
Blade: Double-edged, nickel-plated steel blade in good condition. The serial number 74211 is located near the blade shoulder / tang base area. The blade sits firmly within the lower crossguard and corresponds to the typical workmanship of NVA officer daggers.
Scabbard: Nickel-plated metal scabbard with applied oak leaf decorative bands. The scabbard fittings are correctly mounted and the side carrying ring is properly fitted. Typical scabbard configuration for officer daggers of the NVA Land Forces.
Accessories: Included are the original two-piece silver bullion hanger with grey backing, a marksman lanyard and the parade belt / waist belt. The metal fittings of the hanger are present and complete the parade uniform ensemble.
Historical Background: NVA Officer’s Dagger for the Land Forces Model 1960
The NVA Officer’s Dagger Model 1960 was introduced as part of the parade and service uniform for officers of the National People’s Army (NVA) of the German Democratic Republic (DDR / East Germany). The version for the Land Forces is among the best-known edged weapons of East German military history.
Characteristic features include the white grip, nickel-plated fittings, decorative oak leaf motifs and the silver bullion hanger. Numbered examples were officially issued and accompanied officers during ceremonial and representative occasions.
