SS Service Dagger [Late Variant] by RZM M7/91 (1221/39 SS)

SS Service Dagger in late production with RZM marking RZM M7/91 and additional marking 1221/39 SS. The RZM code is attributed to Karl Malsch-Spitzer, Steinbach. The dagger has an ebony grip, a double-edged blade with SS motto and a black lacquered iron scabbard with nickel-plated steel fittings.

Grip: The grip is made of ebony. It is fitted with the SS emblem and the national eagle made of aluminum. Both grip emblems are internally prong-fastened. The grip corresponds to the late production type of the SS Service Dagger.

Blade: Double-edged blade with the SS motto “Meine Ehre heißt Treue” on the front side. The motto is deeply and angularly etched. The reverse side of the blade is plain and bears the RZM marking “RZM M7/91” as well as the additional marking “1221/39 SS”.

Scabbard: Iron scabbard with black lacquer finish. Both scabbard fittings are made of nickel-plated sheet steel. The fittings are each secured on the sides with two small screws. The upper fitting has the suspension ring for the carrying hanger.

Condition: Preserved late-production SS Service Dagger with age- and use-related traces. The ebony grip is fitted with SS emblem and national eagle. The blade bears the SS motto on the front side and the RZM marking on the reverse side. The scabbard has a black lacquer finish and nickel-plated steel fittings.

Historical Background: Late Variant SS Service Dagger with RZM Marking

The SS Service Dagger was worn within the Schutzstaffel as a sidearm with the uniform. Early examples often bear individual maker logos, while later production pieces are commonly identified by RZM codes and corresponding production markings.

For late SS Service Daggers, the grip material, grip emblems, blade motto, RZM marking, scabbard type and fitting material are relevant details for classification. The blade of this example bears the marking RZM M7/91 and the additional marking 1221/39 SS.

The scabbard of this late variant is made of iron with black lacquer finish. The fittings are made of nickel-plated sheet steel and are attached with side screws. These features correspond to the later production type.

The SS was a central organization of the National Socialist system of rule and terror. This dagger is described exclusively as a historical collector’s object and period edged weapon. The description is limited to its construction, maker code, condition and accessories.
