Luftwaffe Dagger [M1935] by F. W. Höller Solingen

Luftwaffe Dagger Model 1935 in early production, manufactured by F. W. Höller Solingen. The dagger has an overall length of approximately 49.0 cm. The reverse side of the blade bears the maker marking “F. W. Höller Solingen”. This early Luftwaffe dagger features a blue leather-covered grip, gilded national emblems on the pommel, a clean blade and a three-piece scabbard.

Grip & Pommel: The grip has a wooden core and is covered with blue leather. The leather wrapping is very well preserved and shows no visible damage. The pommel is firmly screwed onto the tang and decorated on both sides with gilded national emblems. The combination of blue leather grip and gilded details corresponds to the representative design of the early Luftwaffe Dagger Model 1935.

Blade: Double-edged blade without rust or nicks. The reverse side bears the maker marking “F. W. Höller Solingen”. The blade shoulders fit cleanly and precisely against the crossguard. The clear maker marking and well-preserved blade surface are important features when identifying this early Luftwaffe dagger.

Scabbard: The scabbard is executed in three-piece construction and is preserved without dents or bulges. This execution belongs to the typical early form of the Luftwaffe Dagger Model 1935. The preserved scabbard completes the dagger as a coherent piece within early Luftwaffe edged weapons.

Special Features: Especially noteworthy is the combination of early production, maker F. W. Höller Solingen, blue leather grip, very well-preserved grip covering, gilded national emblems on the pommel, clean blade without rust or nicks and three-piece scabbard without dents or bulges. This dagger is a clearly attributable example of the early Luftwaffe Dagger Model 1935 by a known Solingen maker.

Historical Background: Luftwaffe Dagger Model 1935

The Luftwaffe Dagger Model 1935 was the early dagger form of the German Luftwaffe and was worn mainly by flying personnel as well as Luftwaffe officers. It was not intended as a combat knife, but as a representative edged weapon for dress and parade uniforms.

Characteristic features of the early dagger include the leather-covered grip, the distinctive fitting design, the screw-mounted pommel and the three-piece scabbard. Depending on maker, production period and material execution, different variants exist in grip leather, fittings, blade markings and scabbard construction.

F. W. Höller Solingen was one of the known Solingen manufacturers of German edged weapons. The maker marking on the blade allows a clear attribution and is an essential feature when identifying early Luftwaffe daggers.
