Historical Context: Julfest, Allach & Porcelain Culture
The Julfest was promoted in National Socialist Germany as an ideologically framed alternative to traditional Christian winter holidays. It was intended to reference supposed “Germanic” customs and became part of the official festive calendar, particularly during the wartime years.
The Allach Porcelain Manufactory produced special Julfest plates for this occasion, decorated with symbolic imagery and mottos. These plates served both as decorative household items and as ideologically charged commemorative objects.
The present “Julfest 1942” plate, with its central symbolic motif, circular inscription and original SS Allach mark, represents a typical example of this genre and constitutes a document of Allach porcelain production during the Second World War.
