SS Enlisted Man's Dagger [Late Model] with Hanger by RZM 1196/38 SS (Ed. Wüsthof Solingen)
SS service dagger in late production, manufactured according to the regulations of the Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM). The blade bears the marking “RZM 1196/38 SS”, attributed to Ed. Wüsthof Dreizackwerk, Solingen. The piece is offered together with a matching leather hanger .
Grip: Ebony grip fitted with the SS runes and the national eagle. Both insignia are period-correct and clamped from the inside. Overall, the grip presents as a coherent example fully in keeping with the late production period.
Blade: Bright steel blade in clean condition, free of nicks. On the front is the SS motto “Meine Ehre heißt Treue”. The reverse bears the RZM marking “RZM 1196/38 SS” for Ed. Wüsthof Dreizackwerk, Solingen. The blade shoulders fit precisely against the lower crossguard.
Scabbard: Iron scabbard with original paint, still preserved to approximately 95%. The two fittings are made of nickel-plated sheet steel and are each secured laterally with two screws. Overall, a very attractive configuration fully consistent with the late-production period.
Hanger: Black leather hanger in matching configuration. Marked RZM M5/25. A fitting suspension piece that complements the dagger well and makes the set especially appealing to collectors.
Historical Context: SS service dagger of the late RZM production period
Late SS service daggers show a more standardized production than the early examples, reflecting the regulations of the Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM). This applies both to the blade markings and to the choice of materials and execution of individual fittings. Such standardized manufacture is one of the key characteristics of the later production period.
The marking “RZM 1196/38 SS” present here is attributed to Ed. Wüsthof Dreizackwerk, Solingen and allows a clear maker-related classification. Together with the SS motto “Meine Ehre heißt Treue”, the dagger shows the typical appearance of a late SS piece from the RZM period.
Particularly attractive here is the largely preserved original scabbard paint in combination with the matching hanger. A complete set of dagger, scabbard and period-correct suspension remains of special collector interest, as it clearly illustrates the typical late wearing style and configuration of these edged weapons.
