Soviet Officer Shashka Model 1881 – Decorative Version / Reproduction
Soviet Shashka after Model 1881 in decorative form or likely later collector’s reproduction. The piece visually follows the appearance of Soviet Model 1881 shashkas and features various historically inspired markings, including the date “1934”.
Grip: Spiral-carved wooden grip with brass-colored hilt. The pommel cap bears markings inspired by Soviet examples, including hammer and sickle and “C.C.C.P.”. The overall construction follows the appearance of historical Soviet officer and Cossack shashkas.
Blade: Fuller-backed blade with double-edged tip. The ricasso bears Cyrillic markings together with the date “1934”. Based on comparable examples known on the collector market, the sword is offered cautiously as a decorative version / reproduction.
Scabbard: Wooden scabbard covered in black leather with brass-colored mounts. The design follows the visual appearance of historical Soviet shashkas.
Note: Sold expressly as a decorative version / collector’s reproduction. No guarantee is given as to originality as a Soviet production piece of the 1930s. Please refer to the images.
Historical Background: Shashka Model 1881
The Shashka is a traditional sabre weapon historically associated with Cossack units, Imperial Russian and later Soviet military formations. The Model 1881 became one of the best-known forms of this edged weapon and existed in several officer and troop variants.
Characteristic features include a slightly curved blade, single-edged construction with a double-edged tip, and a functional hilt design without a pronounced hand guard. Historical Soviet examples often bear state markings, dates and arsenal stamps, making them especially interesting to collectors.
Since numerous later collector-made examples and reproductions of Soviet shashkas exist, the present example is expressly described not as an original 1930s Soviet production piece, but as a decorative version / reproduction. It is therefore primarily suited as a decorative collectible, comparison piece or display item.
