Wehrmacht Heer Officer’s Saber with Portepee & Protective Bag by Robert Klaas Solingen

Wehrmacht Heer officer’s saber with portepee, scabbard and protective bag, manufactured by Robert Klaas Solingen. The blade measures approximately 80 cm. The reverse ricasso bears the maker logo “Robert Klaas Solingen”. The saber has a black celluloid grip, a gilded brass hilt, a nickel-plated blade and a black lacquered scabbard.

Grip & Hilt: The grip is made of black celluloid over a carved wooden base. The grip is wrapped with triple-twisted brass wire, which is completely preserved. The hilt is made of solid brass and is gilded. The crossguard shows the national eagle with worked details on the breast, head, feathers, claws and wreath with swastika.

Decoration: The saber has floral ornamentation on the pommel, backstrap, grip langets and P-guard. The ferrule is decorated with raised oak leaves. The gilding on the brass hilt is well preserved, with age-related patina and light wear on raised areas.

Blade: Nickel-plated blade with a bright, glossy surface. The blade is straight and shows fine age- and scabbard-related surface marks. The reverse ricasso bears the maker logo “Robert Klaas Solingen”. The original leather buffer pad between blade and hilt is present and correctly seated.

Scabbard & Accessories: The scabbard is straight and retains most of its black lacquer finish with age- and wear-related traces. The suspension ring shows patina. The portepee is attached to the grip. The protective bag is also present and included with this piece.

Condition: The saber is in overall very good condition with visible age-related signs of use. The grip is well preserved, and the wire wrapping is complete. The gilded hilt shows patina and light wear. The blade is nickel-plated, bright and shows fine surface marks. The scabbard is straight, with preserved lacquer finish and minor lacquer and carrying marks.
