SA Full Rohm Honor Dagger [Ernst Röhm] by Hermann Schneider Solingen
Early SA Röhm honour dagger with the full Röhm dedication on the reverse of the blade and an engraved owner name on the scabbard: “Holthoff”. Manufactured by the very rare Solingen maker Hermann Schneider, Solingen (collector rarity approx. 5 out of 5). This is an early production example with nickel fittings and the matching group mark “Ns” for Niedersachsen on the lower crossguard.
Grip: Brown wooden grip in early configuration with a neatly inset national eagle in nickel, showing the characteristic long neck. Above it sits the enameled SA emblem, correctly clamped from the inside. Both crossguards are made of nickel / nickel silver. The lower crossguard is hand-stamped on the reverse with the group marking “Ns” for Niedersachsen.
Blade: Double-edged blade in good condition, free of rust and without nicks. The front bears the deeply and sharply etched SA motto “Alles für Deutschland”. The reverse carries the full Röhm dedication “In herzlicher Kameradschaft Ernst Röhm”. Beneath it is the maker’s logo Hermann Schneider Solingen (a sailing ship with two masts and flags).
Scabbard: Iron scabbard with original finish. The fittings are likewise made of nickel / nickel silver and are secured laterally with two screws each. The upper fitting carries the suspension ring for the hanger. In addition, the scabbard bears the owner’s engraving “Holthoff”.
Hanger: Early 3-piece SA leather hanger with hook, unmarked, as is typical for the early production period. Strong brown leather with original, fully functional snap fastener. Buckle and hook are made of nickel-plated nickel silver (non-magnetic). Completely original and in excellent condition.
Historical Context: Early SA Röhm Honour Dagger with full dedication
The SA Röhm honour dagger is among the best-known and most sought-after variants of the early SA daggers. These pieces were issued during the early production period and carry on the reverse of the blade the personal dedication “In herzlicher Kameradschaft Ernst Röhm”, clearly distinguishing them from standard SA service daggers.
Typical early features include high-quality nickel / nickel silver fittings, a deeply etched motto “Alles für Deutschland”, and period-correct group markings on the lower crossguard. The mark “Ns” identifies the SA group Niedersachsen. Such regional group markings are especially attractive to collectors because they allow a clearer organizational attribution.
Particularly notable here is the extremely rare maker Hermann Schneider, Solingen. Daggers by this producer are regarded as very difficult to find, making this example especially desirable. Combined with the full Röhm dedication, the consistent early fittings and the original early hanger, the dagger forms a highly attractive collector’s set.
The additional engraving “Holthoff” on the scabbard provides a further personal element. Owner names or personalized markings of this kind enhance the historical character of a piece and distinguish it clearly from anonymous comparison examples.
