Luftwaffe Dagger [1937] with Hangers and Portepee by E.&F. Hörster Solingen
This 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger, produced by Hörster, is an absolute textbook example, and is in fine condition overall. Model 1937. The total length is 43.0 cm. The Dagger has the maker mark on the blade: E.&F. Hörster Solingen.
Grip: The grip is an attractive dark pumpkin orange color. This grip is in perfect condition throughout, and is tightly wrapped with a springy copper wire. The hilt mounts are finished in an extremely dark coating. The pommel and crossguard have blackening in the backgrounds. This pommel has excellent hand-enhanced oak leaf details on both sides. The swastikas on either side are nicely vaulted. Crossgurad bear a Luftwaffe eagle flying to the viewer's left and clutching a swastika in his talons. The guard shows little wear, with excellent detail to the beak, breast feathering, and talons of the bird. The wing feathering is still mostly crisp as well.
Blade: The blade is in fine condition throughout. This beautiful blade is etched with the familiar Hörster trademark, the intertwined letters “HHS” pierced with a downward pointing sword. The blade is protected by the mint condition matching leather blade buffer.
Scabbard: The scabbard is also a fine example. It is coated with an airplane gray finish. It has outstanding crisp pebbled panels and the bands are a fine aluminum having excellent detail to the oak leaves. The throat is slightly thick and is retained by two headless flush mount screws.
