Luftwaffe Dagger [1937] with blade etching on both sides - "Emil Voos" design

Luftwaffe Officer’s Dagger Model 1937 in the 2nd Model configuration, with double-sided blade etching, two-piece hanger and short Luftwaffe portepee. The dagger has an overall length of approximately 43.2 cm. The blade is decoratively etched on both sides and corresponds to the so-called “Emil Voos” design, Type 1 variant with orange-colored grip, etched blade and without maker marking.

Grip & Crossguard: Round, orange-colored grip with convex fluting. The fluting curves outward and corresponds to the typical form of the Luftwaffe Officer’s Dagger Model 1937. The pommel is firmly screwed onto the tang and decorated on both sides with national emblems as well as surrounding oak leaf ornamentation. The crossguard is executed in the form of the Luftwaffe eagle, facing left, with downward swept wing tips. In its claws, the eagle holds a swastika. The reverse side of the crossguard has a granulated finish.

Blade: Double-edged blade with decorative etching on both sides. The etching shows the so-called “Emil Voos” design and gives the dagger a clearly more representative appearance compared with regular versions with plain standard blades. This is a Type 1 variant with blade etching and without maker marking. Between the blade shoulders and the lower crossguard is the leather buffer washer. The double-sided blade etching forms the special focal point of this Luftwaffe Officer’s Dagger.

Scabbard: The scabbard is made from drawn sheet steel and displays the typical granulated surface texture on both front and reverse. Fitted with a separately inserted throat piece, secured from the sides by two screws. The scabbard has two oak leaf decorated suspension bands with loose, fully closed suspension rings. The tip of the scabbard is rounded and undamaged. The scabbard corresponds to the classic configuration of the Luftwaffe Officer’s Dagger Model 1937.

Hanger & Portepee: The dagger comes with a two-piece Luftwaffe hanger and a short Luftwaffe portepee. The hanger complements the complete wearing equipment of the Luftwaffe Officer’s Dagger. The portepee is attached to the dagger and completes the representative appearance of this decoratively executed piece.

Special Features: Especially noteworthy is the double-sided blade etching in the “Emil Voos” design. Luftwaffe Officer’s Daggers with etched blades are considerably rarer and more striking than regular standard versions. The combination of orange-colored grip, Type 1 etched blade without maker marking, granulated scabbard, two-piece hanger and short Luftwaffe portepee makes this piece a decorative and collector-relevant ensemble within Luftwaffe edged weapons.
