Historical Context: Volksmarine Admiral’s Daggers & MfS Presentation Pieces
The Admiral’s Dagger of the Volksmarine represented the highest grade
of East German dress daggers. Gilded fittings, brocade hangers and ornate scabbards
made this model a prestige symbol for senior naval leadership.
Even rarer are presentation daggers awarded for exceptional merit.
The inscription “Presented by the Minister for State Security” indicates
a high-level, politically significant award – likely to high-ranking naval, state security,
or allied personnel.
Pieces of this nature belong to the rarest and most desirable DDR edged weapons,
with only very few surviving examples known.
