Historical Context: Long K98 Dress Bayonet
The long K98 dress bayonet was introduced in the 1930s as the ceremonial and service version of the standard bayonet for the Karabiner 98k rifle. Unlike the combat bayonet, it served purely for display and parade purposes, often worn by non-commissioned officers.
The elegant nickel-plated blade and black-lacquered steel scabbard gave the piece a refined appearance suitable for the dress uniform. Many examples bear no manufacturer’s mark, indicating production for non-military or private purchase markets.
Complete examples with original leather frogs are rare today. This specimen exhibits all the defining features of an authentic Wehrmacht-era bayonet.
