Classic S84/98 bayonet in coherent condition with the double maker designation Rich. A. Herder Solingen and H. Mundschloss & Co. Magdeburg. A typical example of this widely used German bayonet pattern with a pleasing overall appearance. The overall length is approx. 40.7 cm.
Grip: Brown wood grip scales, secured with two screws. The release button is fully functional. The grip sits firmly and without play, overall in solid and matching preserved condition.
Blade: Blued, single-edged blade with fullers. On one side appears the marking “H. Mundschloss & Co. Magdeburg”, and on the other side “Rich. A. Herder Solingen”. The spine is marked “Crown W16”. Overall, a typical example of this model with an interesting maker combination.
Scabbard: Blued steel scabbard in good preserved condition, matching the bayonet well. The scabbard complements the piece in a coherent way and supports the complete overall appearance.
Historical Context: S84/98 bayonet
The S84/98 bayonet is among the best-known German military bayonets of the 20th century. Because of its clear, functional construction and its long period of service, it is now one of the classic collecting fields within German edged weapons.
