Army Officer’s Dagger by F.W. Höller Solingen

Army Officer’s Dagger M1935 – F.W. Höller Solingen

Elegant Army Officer’s Dagger, Model 1935, manufactured by the renowned Solingen firm F.W. Höller. The total length is 39.5 cm. A well-preserved original piece with a beautiful and even patina.

Grip: Rounded grip with double-twisted grooves, made of white celluloid. The grooves are convex and finely executed with precise symmetry. The conical pommel is tightly screwed to the tang and decorated with 12 individually crafted oak leaves. At the base of the grip sits a ring featuring seven oak leaves arranged in a single row. The crossguard displays the left-facing army eagle with downward-swept wings, clutching a wreath with swastika in its talons. Shows only minimal traces of wear and retains crisp detailing and frosting on the edges.

Blade: Double-edged and mirror-bright. The reverse ricasso bears the maker’s mark “F.W. Höller Solingen” with the well-known thermometer logo inside double ovals — an early, finely detailed version from the 1930s. The original blade buffer leather is intact and securely fitted between the blade shoulders and lower crossguard.

Scabbard: One-piece steel scabbard with finely pebbled surface texture. Both suspension bands are decorated with oak-leaf motifs featuring hand-engraved veins and fitted with fully closed carrying rings. The throat is separately mounted and secured at the back with a single screw.

Historical Context: Army Officer’s Dagger Model 1935

The Army Officer’s Dagger, Model 1935, was officially introduced in the mid-1930s as a dress sidearm for Wehrmacht officers, replacing the traditional saber and becoming an integral part of the service uniform.

Produced by leading Solingen makers such as F.W. Höller, Eickhorn, and WKC, these daggers were admired for their excellent workmanship, high-quality materials, and symbolic design featuring the German eagle with oak leaves, representing courage, honor, and loyalty.

Höller examples are especially appreciated by collectors for their distinctive thermometer trademark and the fine hand-engraved details on the scabbard fittings. Today, they stand among the most sought-after dress daggers of the Wehrmacht era, representing both military tradition and exceptional Solingen craftsmanship.
