This 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger, produced by SMF and is in EXC++ condition overall. Model 1937. The total length is 42.6 cm. The Dagger has the maker mark on the blade: SMF Solingen.

Grip: The grip of this dagger is a beauty, being a shade of light orange and is tightly wrapped with springy aluminum wire. The pommel is a great example, having nearly 100% of the original gilding on both sides of the swastika. The oak leaves which surround the swastikas are extremely well rendered and hand engraved right up to the smooth center ridge line. The original darkening is complete throughout this pommel. The crossguard also has the original darkening throughout. The eagle retain full detail to the head, feathering and talons. The reverse of the guard has a similar level of darkening to the pebbled surface.

Blade: The blade is in good condition. The reverse ricasso has a waffenamt stamping (again a hallmark of SMF production) being a stick bird with a number “5” in his belly. Below the waffenamt is the Seated King trademark of the firm, sword in hand. He sits above the firms initials and the location of “Solingen”. The original blade washer is in place deep within the recesses of the guard.

Scabbard: The scabbard is being totally straight and having a fully intact airplane gray finish. It has the SMF style bands which feature oak leaves positioned on 45 degree angles. The throat is left in the natural metal tone and is retained by two headless side screws.
