Purchase: Army Officer’s Dagger with Hangers - Carl Eickhorn, Solingen

Eickhorn Carl, Solingen

An early army dagger by Eickhorn. This Army has a wonderful rich, dark and black patina throughout that has been virtually untouched. The leaf pommel being hand tooled, shows wonderful definition to not only each of the oak leaves, but even to the miniature acorns found seated at the base of them. Like the pommel, the eagle clinching a mobile swastika seen on the crossguard, displays such detail that you can easily count every feather on the bird. This grip on this dagger is a beauty, being void of any chips, splits or cracks. As you can see, it displays a very pleasing light orange color. The grip is on the top damaged. Like the crossguard and pommel, the scabbard is constructed of heavy silver plate, and has taken on the same pleasing patinaed look. You can tell that this dagger has been sitting in the scabbard for sometime as the outline of the mobile swastika can be seen at the top of the shell. The shell itself is straight as an arrow and void of any dents or hit. A common seen trait on Eickhorn scabbards is a flaw in manufacturing where one of the runners shakes, luckily it doesn't impede the blade at all. Both hanger bands are firmly attached with functional hanger rings. On the reverse of the blade and still burnished dark, is etched the famous Eickhorn squirrel trademark.
