Campaign Shields
Campaign Shields
In our Arm Shields category, discover an exclusive selection of original arm shields and historical campaign shields from World War II. The arm shields, also known as campaign shields, were instituted starting in 1941 by Adolf Hitler to honor soldiers for participation in particularly difficult campaigns. They were worn on the left sleeve of the uniform and symbolize specific battles or front sections. Well-known variants include the Narvik Shield (for the Norway campaign 1940), the Cholm Shield (for the siege of Cholm 1942), the Demjansk Shield (for the Demjansk Pocket battle 1942), the Crimea Shield (for the Crimea campaign 1941–1942), the Kuban Shield (for the Kuban bridgehead 1943), the Lorient Shield (for the siege of Lorient 1944–1945), the Lapland Shield (for the withdrawal from Finland 1944–1945), and the Warsaw Shield (for the Warsaw Uprising 1944). Historically, thousands were awarded, e.g., approx. 100,000 Crimea Shields. The shields are typically made of stamped sheet metal or zinc, with variants in metal or cloth (for camouflage), often with backing plates, pins, or magnetic closures. Our collection includes rare pieces with ribbons, cases, or certificates, reflecting the evolution of Wehrmacht uniform traditions and ideal for collectors and historians.
