SS Chained Dagger [M1936] with Type-C Chain
SS Chain Dagger, later production. Model 1936. According to Ralf Siegert the chain is classified as Type C, while Thomas Wittmann refers to it as Type I. Total length: 37.2 cm.
Grip: The grip is made of black ebony and is fitted with the original SS runes and the national eagle. Both emblems are completely preserved, intact, and firmly set. The grip shows light signs of use; at the lower edges on both sides, small corners have chipped off. The crossguards are made of nickel silver.
Blade: The double-edged blade is in good condition, free from rust or nicks. The SS motto “Meine Ehre heißt Treue” (“My Honor is Loyalty”) is deeply and clearly etched on the obverse. The reverse is plain, without a maker’s mark, exactly as prescribed for later production. The blade shoulders fit precisely into the lower crossguard.
Scabbard: The scabbard is made of steel with a blackened finish. The chain hanger is of nickel-plated steel, typical for the later production period of the SS M36 daggers. The Wotan’s knot is fully pierced; on the top loop, the abbreviation “D.R.G.M.” (Deutsches Reichsgebrauchsmuster) is partially visible. The chain remains in its untouched, uncleaned condition. The chain links are pebbled and no longer factory-darkened (Type C). On the reverse of the chain the SS stamp is present.
