HJ Knife [Late Production] – RZM M7/72 (Karl Robert Kaldenbach Solingen)

HJ Knife in late production from the period approx. 1940–1942. The reverse side of the blade bears the RZM marking “RZM M7/72”. The manufacturer code is attributed to Karl Robert Kaldenbach, Solingen. The knife has black grip plates, the HJ emblem on the front, a single-edged blade and a black lacquered iron scabbard.

Grip: Riveted grip plates made of black Bakelite with a diamond-patterned textured surface. The HJ emblem is set into the center of the front grip plate. The hilt has the typical single-sided curved crossguard. The rear grip plate is damaged in the lower section and has a larger missing area. Parts of the underlying construction and fastening are visible in this area.

Blade: Single-edged steel blade, fixed into the grip. The reverse side bears the RZM marking “RZM M7/72”. The code M7/72 is attributed to the Solingen manufacturer Karl Robert Kaldenbach. The blade shows age- and use-related traces.

Scabbard: Iron scabbard with original black lacquer finish. The surface shows age- and use-related traces. The scabbard is preserved together with the knife.

Condition: Late-production HJ Knife with age- and use-related traces. The HJ emblem is present on the front grip plate. The rear black Bakelite grip plate has a clearly visible missing section in the lower area. The blade bears the RZM marking RZM M7/72. The black lacquered iron scabbard is present.

Historical Background: HJ Knife RZM M7/72

HJ knives were worn as part of the equipment of the Hitler Youth. During production, details such as maker markings, blade inscriptions and materials changed. Later examples frequently bear an RZM marking instead of a written maker logo.

The marking RZM M7/72 is attributed to the manufacturer Karl Robert Kaldenbach, Solingen. Typical features of later versions include black synthetic grip plates, the inserted HJ emblem, a single-edged blade and a black lacquered iron scabbard.

The Hitler Youth was the youth organization of the NSDAP and formed part of the National Socialist organizational and indoctrination system. The knife described here is presented exclusively as a historical collector’s object and period equipment item.
