German Naval Dagger [1st Model - M1929] by E. & F. Hörster Solingen
This example is very attractive 1st Model Naval Dagger with Hammered Scabbard. This 1st Model Naval Dagger is a rarely seen example. The maker mark is stamped by E. & F. Hörster Solingen.
Grip: The grip of the dagger is of carved solid wood that has been coated with celluloid. The grip wire is extremely tight and there is no change of the grip deteriorating any further. The ball pommel is extremely detailed, adorned with the old reed and cattail pattern. Much of the chiseled detailing to cattails is still visible. The crossguard is the standard Imperial type, with sharp looking center blocks. The area has been nicely pebbled. The four sided quillon arms project from the center block and end in stylized capstans.
Blade: The blade of this example is in NEAR MINT condition being a fouled anchor style double etched motif. The blade's ricasso is maker marked E. & F. Hörster Solingen. The blade buffer is in position.
Scabbard: The scabbard is straight throughout and has an excellent hammered finish. This finish is nicely set off by the straight-across bands. These bands feature overlapping oak leaves with acorns in between and show only mild wear. The eyelets have the hammered finish. The throat is retained by two flush mounted side screws.
