German Army Officer’s Dagger [M1935] by WKC Solingen

Army Officer’s Dagger Model 1935, second variant, the so-called “Tomahawk model”, with grip wrapping, manufactured by WKC Solingen / Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie.. The dagger has an overall length of approximately 40.0 cm and corresponds to the classic configuration of the Army Officer’s Dagger with orange-colored Trolon grip, oak leaf decorated fittings, granulated scabbard and maker marking on the blade. Notable is the unusual double wrapping on the grip, as standard Army Officer’s Daggers were normally produced without grip wrapping.

Grip & Crossguard: Round Trolon grip in orange coloration with double-twisted, convex fluting. The grip has a double grip wrapping, which is not part of the usual standard configuration of Army Officer’s Daggers and gives the piece a distinctive appearance. The conical pommel is firmly screwed onto the tang and decorated with surrounding oak leaf ornamentation. At the lower end of the grip is the typical decorative grip ring with oak leaves arranged side by side. The crossguard is executed in the form of the Army eagle, facing left, with downward swept wing tips. In its claws, the eagle holds a wreath with swastika. The shape of the crossguard corresponds to the so-called Tomahawk variant.

Blade: Double-edged, mirror-bright blade with clearly visible crossgrain. The reverse side bears the maker logo with knight’s head and the maker designation WKC Solingen for Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie.. The blade tip is preserved. Between the blade shoulders and the lower crossguard is the original leather buffer washer. The maker mark and the preserved crossgrain are important features for attributing this Army Officer’s Dagger.

Scabbard: The scabbard is made from drawn sheet steel and displays the typical granulated surface texture on both front and reverse. Fitted with a separately inserted throat piece, secured on the right side with one screw. The scabbard has two oak leaf decorated suspension bands with loose, fully closed suspension rings. The tip of the scabbard is rounded and not dented.

Special Features: Especially noteworthy is the combination of WKC Solingen, Tomahawk model, mirror-bright blade with crossgrain, knight’s head maker logo, original leather buffer washer and the unusual double grip wrapping. The grip wrapping deviates from the regular configuration of the Army Officer’s Dagger and makes this piece a particularly interesting variant within German Army edged weapons.
