DLV Glider Pilot Knife [M1934] with Hanger by Gebr. Heller Marienthal
DLV Flying Knife (Model 1934, Variant 1), manufactured by Gebr. Heller, Marienthal. Early nickel-silver production. Complete with original hanger.
Grip: The grip has a wooden core covered with dark-blue saffian (Morocco) leather. The crossguard and pommel are made of nickel silver. The enameled swastika medallions are centrally set into the crossguard. The crossguard is designed in the shape of stylized wings, slightly curved downward. Beneath it sits the original blue leather buffer pad. The dagger is held together by a pommel screw at the top of the grip.
Blade: The double-edged blade measures 175 mm in length and 25.7 mm at its widest point. The reverse bears the etched maker’s mark: “Gebr. Heller, Marienthal b. Schweina/Thr.”
Scabbard: The scabbard is made of steel and also covered with dark-blue saffian leather. The nickel-silver fittings feature two decorative grooves around each band. The upper fitting is two-piece and secured with screws. The throat piece bears the DLV stamp and acceptance mark. Attached to the suspension ring is the original leather strap.
Hanger: The hanger is crafted from dark leather and reinforced with two oval plates, riveted together.
