Historical Context: Argentinian Bayonet M1909 – WKC Solingen
The M1909 bayonet served as the standard bayonet of the Argentine Army for the Mauser infantry rifle of the same designation. While Argentina later established its own domestic production, the earliest and highest-quality examples were manufactured in Germany — primarily by Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co. (WKC) Solingen.
These German export bayonets are known for their precise craftsmanship, clean blade geometry, and the typical high quality associated with Solingen production. They played an important role in the modernization of South American armies in the early 20th century.
Examples with clearly readable manufacturer logos and original blade/scabbard markings are highly desirable among collectors today — especially pieces from the early German manufacturing phase.
The WKC-produced M1909 bayonet represents an important link between German edged weapon craftsmanship and South American military history.
