Historical Context: Argentinian Bayonet M1909
The M1909 bayonet is regarded as one of the finest Mauser bayonets produced
in South America. It was designed for the Argentine infantry rifle M1909, an improved Mauser
pattern introduced into service from 1909 onward.
Early examples were manufactured in Germany, but production was later taken over entirely by
the Dirección General de Fabricaciones Militares – Fábrica Militar de Armas Portátiles (D.G.F.M.–F.M.A.P.).
Bayonets from this Argentine production are known for precise workmanship and durable materials.
The ownership stamp “E.A.” (Ejército Argentino) and matching serial numbers on
blade and scabbard make such pieces particularly desirable among collectors.
Matching-number M1909 bayonets in good condition are today among the most sought-after items
of Argentine Mauser equipment and reflect South America’s military development in the early 20th century.
