Army Officer’s Dagger by F.W. Höller Solingen

Army Officer’s Dagger Model 1935 for officers of the German Army, manufactured by F. W. Höller Solingen. The dagger has an overall length of approximately 39.8 cm and corresponds to the classic configuration of the Army Officer’s Dagger with white celluloid grip, oak leaf decorated fittings, granulated scabbard, uncleaned blade and original leather buffer washer. The reverse side of the blade bears the maker logo F. W. Höller Solingen.

Grip & Crossguard: Round celluloid grip in white execution with double-twisted, convex fluting. The fluting curves outward and corresponds to the typical form of the Army Officer’s Dagger Model 1935. The conical pommel is firmly screwed onto the tang and decorated with surrounding oak leaf ornamentation. At the lower end of the grip is the typical decorative grip ring with oak leaves arranged side by side. The crossguard is executed in the form of the Army eagle, facing left, with downward swept wing tips. In its claws, the eagle holds a wreath with swastika.

Blade: Double-edged, uncleaned blade with reverse maker logo F. W. Höller Solingen. Between the blade shoulders and the lower crossguard is the original leather buffer washer. The maker marking allows a clear attribution to F. W. Höller Solingen and is an important feature when identifying this Army Officer’s Dagger. The uncleaned blade shows an authentic, not subsequently polished surface.

Scabbard: The scabbard is made from drawn sheet steel and displays the typical granulated surface texture on both front and reverse. Fitted with a separately inserted throat piece; the corresponding screw is missing. The scabbard has two oak leaf decorated suspension bands with loose, fully closed suspension rings. The tip of the scabbard is rounded and not dented. The execution corresponds to the classic scabbard form of the Army Officer’s Dagger Model 1935.

Special Features: Especially noteworthy is the combination of F. W. Höller Solingen, white celluloid grip, original leather buffer washer, uncleaned blade with maker logo and granulated scabbard. The missing screw on the scabbard throat piece should be taken into account when assessing the condition. Overall, this is a clearly attributable example of the Army Officer’s Dagger Model 1935 by a known Solingen maker.
