Air Force Dagger [Luftwaffe], German - Carl Eickhorn Solingen
The pommel and crossguard both have good airplane gray darker finish. This pommel is the style with pebbled backgrounds and oak leaves going around double circles which enclose a mobile swastika on each side. Most of all the original darkening is still in place on this fine pommel. The crossguard has pebbling in the back panel and has nearly all of the blackening over the surfaces of the pebbles. The obverse depicts a Luftwaffe eagle flying to the left. This bird has excellent feathering to his wings, breast and talons. The bird grasps a mobile smooth swastika in his claws. The upper quillon arms are the style with cast in oak leaves and acorns. The ferrule nicely matches the hilt fittings. The grip is a fine off-white color and is wrapped with twisted aluminum wire. The scabbard has good airplane gray finish and is straight throughout. This scabbard features pebbling on both sides with carrying bands of aluminum featuring oak leaves positioned on a forty-five degree angle. The throat is retained by two countersunk headless screws. The blade has a few extremely minor age signs in the surfaces. This blade easily grades in excellent plus. The reverse ricasso is stamped with Eickhorn Solingen. Attached to the two hanger rings is a great set of straps. These straps are the velvet type. The mounts are a white metal style having a clip. The oak leaves are nice and crisp throughout the rectangular buckles and slides.
