Luftwaffe Flight Helmet LKpS 101 (Summer Version) – Siemens

Original Luftwaffe Summer Flight Helmet LKpS 101, manufactured by Siemens. This lightweight summer flying headgear was introduced for use by Luftwaffe aircrew and was worn primarily during warmer seasons to improve comfort under flight helmets and radio equipment.

Construction: Textile-based summer flight cap with integrated ear sections and elastic mesh structure. Designed for ventilation and reduced heat buildup compared to winter flight helmets. The helmet shows authentic period wear consistent with operational use.

Label / Markings: Original sewn-in manufacturer label, reading: “Fl. Kopfhaube”, Baumuster: LKpS 101, Gerät-Nr.: 124-…, Anforderungszeichen: Ln.. The supplier is clearly identified as Siemens – Gerätewerk Hakenfelde GmbH. The label remains legible despite age-related fading.

Use: Issued to Luftwaffe flight personnel and intended for use in combination with oxygen masks, goggles and radio headsets. The LKpS 101 represents the standardized summer counterpart to heavier Luftwaffe flight helmets.

Historical Background: Luftwaffe Summer Flight Helmets

The LKpS 101 was introduced as a standardized summer flight helmet for the German Luftwaffe. In contrast to winter flight headgear, these models focused on reduced weight, breathability and compatibility with flight communication equipment.

Siemens, through its Gerätewerk Hakenfelde, was one of the major suppliers of Luftwaffe communication and flight equipment. Helmets like the LKpS 101 were produced under strict military specifications and marked with official Luftwaffe acceptance codes.

Original examples with intact labels are increasingly difficult to find and are today highly sought-after by collectors of Luftwaffe flight gear and aviation militaria.
