Hitler Youth Knife with Motto [Early-period] by Carl Eickhorn Solingen

HJ Hitler Youth Knife in early-period manufacture (1933–1935) with the typical motto “Blood and Honour!”, produced by Carl Eickhorn, Solingen. This is a very early example featuring the early struck maker’s mark, as found exclusively on knives from the first production years.

Grip: Riveted grip plates made of black bakelite with pronounced chequered pattern. In the center of the grip is the Hitler Youth emblem, which is movable—a clear indicator of an original early example and not a later glued replacement. The single-curved crossguard (knebel) is magnetic and firmly seated.

Blade: Single-edged blade made of cast steel, originally riveted into the grip. The obverse bears the early, deeply etched HJ motto “Blood and Honour!”, as used up to August 19, 1938. The reverse is stamped with the maker’s mark “Carl Eickhorn, Solingen” in early struck form.

Scabbard: Steel scabbard with original black finish. The carrying system consists of a leather belt loop with double-layered strap, typical for early Hitler Youth knives.

Historical Background: Early-Period Hitler Youth Knife

The Hitler Youth knife was introduced in 1933 as the official side knife of the Hitler Youth organization. Early examples from the years 1933 to 1935 are today considered especially desirable, as they still exhibit many constructional and manufacturing features of the first production phase.

Typical characteristics of these early knives include the movable HJ emblem, magnetic crossguards, early blade etching styles, and clearly struck maker marks from renowned Solingen manufacturers.

The maker Carl Eickhorn, Solingen is among the most respected and well-known producers of edged weapons of the Third Reich. Early Hitler Youth knives by this manufacturer are regarded as classic and highly sought-after collector’s items.
