Third Reich Deluxe Model (No. 1711) Hunting Association Cutlass by Carl Eickhorn Solingen

A highly representative hunting sidearm of the Deutsche Jägerschaft in the luxury version, Model 1711, manufactured by the renowned Solingen maker Carl Eickhorn, Solingen. A finely crafted original piece featuring decorative hunting motifs and the classic DJ configuration.

Blade: Strong, single-edged wedge-shaped blade with matching hunting-themed etched decoration on both sides (foliage and animal motifs). The typical Eickhorn logo with the squirrel emblem is placed on the ricasso. The blade is bright polished with a fine crossgrain finish visible near the base.

Grip: Grip made of genuine stag horn with inset DJ emblem (“Deutsche Jägerschaft”). Pommel cap and crossguard with crisp, three-dimensional decorative detailing. The guard plate features a finely executed relief depiction of a capercaillie. The tang is securely screwed into the grip.

Scabbard: Green lacquered scabbard with silver-plated mounts, throat and chape in fine quality. Preserved in very nice condition without dents or flaking. Overall length: 45.5 cm.

Historical background: Deutsche Jägerschaft & Model 1711 hunting sidearm

The Deutsche Jägerschaft (DJ) served from 1934 onward as the central organization of the German hunting system. Hunting sidearms such as this Hirschfänger were not only functional items, but above all symbols of status and representation for members of the hunting community.

Model 1711 is considered one of the well-known luxury variants. Typical features include the finely etched wedge blade, the richly decorated guard plate, and silver-plated fittings combined with genuine stag horn grips. Particularly characteristic is the blend of hunting motifs (foliage and animals) with the inset DJ emblem.

The company Carl Eickhorn, Solingen was among the leading manufacturers of high-grade edged weapons, supplying not only service and dress daggers but also hunting weapons in various quality levels. Complete luxury examples with such crisp detail and intact overall appearance are highly collectible and considerably scarcer on the market than standard versions.
