Brazilian Mauser M1908 Bayonet by Simson & Co. Suhl
Brazilian Bayonet M1908 for Mauser rifles of the Brazilian Army, manufactured by the renowned German maker Simson & Co. Suhl. The bayonet has an overall length of approximately 45.2 cm and is preserved together with its original leather scabbard. It is an authentic example with attractive patina, classic Mauser construction and clearly visible maker marking.
Grip: The grip is fitted with two solid wooden grip plates, firmly riveted to the tang. The grip plates are original and well preserved, without chips or breaks. It features the typical T-shaped locking slot as well as a functional spring-loaded press button for attachment to the rifle. The grip section corresponds to the classic construction of the Brazilian M1908 bayonet for Mauser systems.
Blade: Single-edged steel blade with fullers on both sides. The reverse side of the blade bears the maker marking “Simson & Co. Suhl”. The blade is straight, without nicks, and shows an attractive, even finish. The clear maker marking allows a precise attribution and is an important feature for collector identification.
Leather Scabbard: Original leather-covered scabbard with brass fittings. The throat fitting is fitted with a hook, while the chape has the typical ball finial. Leather, fittings and stitching are preserved in good, attractive original condition. The scabbard complements the bayonet well and underlines the historic character of the piece.
Special Features: Especially noteworthy is the combination of Brazilian M1908 Mauser pattern, maker Simson & Co. Suhl, well-preserved wooden grip plates, straight fullered blade and original leather scabbard with brass fittings. The Brazilian M1908 bayonet was produced for Mauser rifles used by the Brazilian Army and belongs to the classic group of German-made export bayonets. At the beginning of the 20th century, numerous Mauser rifle systems and their corresponding bayonets were produced for foreign armies.
