Railway Protection Leader Dagger (M1938), German - Carl Eickhorn Solingen

This 2nd model Railroad Protection Dagger shows some age but it is still in collectible condition. Model 1938. The total length is 49.9 cm. The Dagger has the maker mark on the blade: Original Eickhorn, Solingen.

Grip: Aluminum hilt fittings show minor surface wear with much frosting remaining to the spherical pommel with raised sunwheel swastika, ribbed ferrule and crossguard with winged railcar wheel Bahnschutz insignia on the obverse langet. The crossguard winged insignia has a casting flaw in the right wing as found on Eickhorn produced 2nd model Bahnschutz daggers. Black solid celluloid ridged grip is perfect.

Blade: The blade of this dagger is in good condition. As indicated above, it is an early quality type, having perfect formation to the center ridge where it tapers down to the needle-like tip. The reverse ricasso is etched with the 1935-41 Eickhorn trademark. The trademark has a very dark etch, featuring the seating squirrel wielding a downward pointing sword. Above the bellicose rodent is the word, “Original”, and below the firm's name and location, “Eickhorn in Solingen”. There is a small style leather washer in place.

Scabbard: Dent-free, polished, frosted-steel scabbard shows some minor surface wear. The scabbard has two ribbed aluminium suspension rings fitted; a small scrolled ornate feature completed the bottom of the scabbard tip.
