Historical Context: Reichsberufswettkampf & Gau Winner Badge
The Reichsberufswettkampf (RBW) was a national vocational competition held annually from 1934 by the German Labour Front (DAF) and the Hitler Youth. Its purpose was to promote craftsmanship, discipline, and ideological training among young professionals.
Participants advanced through several levels – from district winner to Gau winner and finally Reich winner. This badge represents a Gau Winner of 1939, the highest regional distinction. It was produced in high-quality non-ferrous metal with detailed silver plating.
The artistic design is credited to Professor Richard Klein of Munich, who created many official awards of the era. The central motif features a swastika surrounded by a laurel wreath, flanked by the year numbers “19” and “39”.
The manufacturer G. Brehmer Markneukirchen ranked among the most renowned German medal producers. His products were noted for their sharp details, even plating, and excellent overall quality. Original 1939 Brehmer badges remain highly prized among collectors today.
